Data Breaches Impact Bottom Line

A new survey released by Vericept and the Enterprise Strategy Group verifies that data breaches impact bottom line revenues.

The survey interviewed 206 security professionals in large industries. One third of companies without a data loss prevention solution suffered a data breach in the last year. Of those, 30% impacted bottom line revenue.

“Data breaches originating inside an organization continue to make headlines and wreak havoc on corporate reputation and revenue,” said Jon Oltsik, Senior Analyst at Enterprise Strategy Group and Author of the report. “The ESG research demonstrates that businesses are realizing how important it is to have a data leak prevention solution in place. Those organizations without a data loss prevention solution live with the ever-increasing risk of a financially devastating data breach.”

Right now, government compliance pressure is the biggest factor (72%) in protecting confidential data. This would suggest that unified National legislation would bring positive changes to the way that businesses operate.
