M&I Bank Arizona is sponsoring a "shred-a-thon" to help fight identity theft.

Residents and businesses can have their personal documents shredded professionally, ensuring it’s properly disposed of. A camera is installed in the shredder so that individuals can witness the destruction of their documents.

M&I Bank has sponsored several of these "shred-a-thon"/ "shred-fest" events in order to combat the high rate of identity theft. Arizona has more identity-theft complaints than any other state, for two years running, according to the FTC.

The upcoming "shred-a-thon" will be held on May 10th at M&I Bank (13926 W. Bell Road, Surprise). More "shred-a-thons" are scheduled for upcoming months, across the state. Information is available here.

Residents are encouraged to bring old bills, old tax returns (past 7 years), and medical records. If you plan on shredding at home, make sure your shredder is a cross-cut shredder, making it more difficult to put the pieces back together.
